Mid-September weddings in Springfield are kind of magic, and Maggie & Keenan’s day was no exception. The air felt warm but comfortable, the light was soft, and there was that unmistakable feeling that something really special was about to happen. They chose The Conservatory at the Historic Ursuline Academy for their ceremony — a beautiful, classic space tucked right into the heart of the city that felt intimate, elegant, and perfectly “them.”
Before the ceremony, Maggie & Keenan shared one of my favorite moments of the day: their first look. And not just anywhere — they chose the breezeway next to the Illinois State Senate chambers at the Capitol. This spot held so much meaning for them since their jobs in and around the Capitol are how they met. Watching Keenan turn around and see Maggie for the first time was such a genuine, emotional moment — the kind you don’t forget. We continued photos inside the Senate chambers with their bridal party and then made our way into the rotunda, where the architecture alone feels like art. The bridesmaids’ dresses and florals added the perfect pop of color against the grand space. We had plans to step outside, but a sudden downpour had other ideas — honestly though, being “stuck” inside the Capitol wasn’t the worst backup plan. Maggie & Keenan were more than ready to be married, rain or shine, and it showed in every frame.
Their ceremony back at the Conservatory was full of heart. Surrounded by family and friends, there were definitely tears — mixed right in with laughter during their vows. It felt emotional, joyful, and incredibly real. And once they sealed it with a kiss, the celebration officially began.
As luck would have it, the rain cleared and the sun made a comeback just in time for a few portraits outside. That post-ceremony glow (from both the sunshine and the newlyweds) was perfection.
The night wrapped up with an elegant reception at The Artisans Building in Springfield. From Maggie & Keenan’s sweet first dance to heartfelt toasts from Maggie’s mom, the maid of honor, and the best man, the evening was packed with meaningful moments. Maggie shared a dance with her mom, Keenan danced with his mom, and before long the dance floor was full and staying that way. We even snuck out for sunset photos as the light dipped below the treeline — easily one of my favorite moments of the day.
Maggie & Keenan’s wedding was thoughtful, emotional, and full of joy — a perfect reflection of the two of them and the life they’re building together.
