I am a wedding and portrait photographer who keeps things light, fun, and full of energy. I’m based out of Springfield, Illinois however I love traveling all over the midwest and beyond.

Nothing gets couples, well maybe brides, more excited than engagement photos! And I know Rachel has been looking forward to her photos with fiance, Nate since we scheduled them in the wintertime last year. So as we were getting closer to the evening we chose for their spring engagement session in Springfield, Illinois we were both pretty bummed as we continuously watched our weather apps showing a big blob of rain moving towards us on the radar they were calling a “Code Red Alert” for strong storms. Yet, we were all hoping it would dissipate by the night of their photoshoot, as many weather patterns in Illinois do. And that is exactly what happened! It pushed back until the late evening hours and overnight! YAY! When I met up with Rachel, Nate, and her 7-year-old son, Cooper for the session the sun was out and the temperatures were perfect! Rachel is energetic and spunky and we had a ton of laughs together. Nate is immensely kind and sweet and happy doing whatever makes Rachel happy! Within minutes of arriving at the Old State Capitol downtown, they were already giggling with each other and snuggling in close. Cooper, has a big personality himself, like his mama, and tried his best to photobomb as many photos as he could sneak into! We took plenty of time to include this cutie into some family photos throughout our time together. Before their session, I had scouted a few different locations around the capitol and spotted a lovely flowering tree at the Horace Mann building. Any signs of spring I was ready to pounce on! And luckily Rachel and Nate were open to it as well! These two are fantastic together as they shared many sweet moments in one another’s arms. There was an abundance of laughs and I think they do a lot of that when they are with each other, which is fun to be a part of! We finished with this trio where the trees were just starting to come alive with green, but the lighting was divine! Rachel’s floral dress was vibrant and flirty, which totally matches her personality! At one point, I told them the light popping through the trees was phenomenal and I was going to back up really far to get a pulled back shot of all their adorableness! Rachel’s response was, “Oh YAY, this is our calendar shot!” I about died from laughter! Cooper joined them for a few more family photos as well as ensuring I captured a few by himself with his prized Iron Man glove! I think he nailed it!
Rachel and Nate did an amazing job playing model for the e-session and I couldn’t be happier I had more time to learn about their relationship before their big day in the fall! And the added bonus was being able to watch a new family in the making as Rachel and Nate made sure to include handsome Cooper in these very important photos.
Warm Regards,
Lauren
