“How did you get into photography?” I get asked that question all the time. Sometimes I do have to stop and think, “Man, how long HAVE I been doing photography?” Feels like as long as I can remember. I’ve always had an interest in photos/photo taking in general. Just ask my parents, who peeled countless pieces of scotch tape off walls, closet doors, and mirrors because I stuck photos of my family & friends on any open space I could find in my room growing up. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I figured out there are people in the world who make their living in creative fields. This lead me to study photography and graphic design in college.
However, this post is called “WHY I Became A Photographer”, not “How”. Surrounding myself with couples, their loved ones, families, children, and the smallest babies with their new parents provides me with the greatest satisfaction and purpose in my life. Creating an Experience is what drives me in every aspect of my business. I want to calm nerves and make sure that everything will work out on wedding day. I want parents to know that I have a toddler as well and I totally understand that most kids aren’t going to sit still longer than five seconds. So we will capture their fun-loving personalities while I play hide and seek with them. I want to make people laugh with my dumb jokes….because this ensures the best, most authentic smiles! I became a photographer so that my clients could look back on their Experience with me in such positive light that they know they had an incredible time from start to finish. The stress they had about the wedding details, picking coordinating outfits for their session, or getting everyone in the car and to the desired location on time simply melts away…and they can be themselves. Because honestly when was the last time you looked at a professional photo of someone who looked stiff and uncomfortable and said, “How beautiful” or “I LOVE these?” Probably…Never! My goal is to give my clients a warm, fuzzy feeling every time they look at their photos. Just like the feeling they felt after I finished photographing them. Ultimately, my career as a photographer is a labor of love and the friendships I gain through the years is Why I cherish what I do the most.
