The Baker Family Farm has been part of Whitney’s history since 1883. She and Tommy both live and breathe farming. They help raise the cattle, they know the land for miles around, they each work in the Ag service industry (and are even taking their honeymoon later to an Ag conference!) And one day…The Baker Farm will continue to be worked by Whitney and her family. Which is why it meant so much to her to hold her and Tommy’s nuptials on this farm! Their mid-September wedding day was warmer than predicted, but the sun was out and it was lovely! Whitney and her ladies got ready at her dad’s house right in front of where the ceremony was going to be held, making logistics for the day super easy. The color pallet of burnt orange, tan, and greenery along with lots of fall textures made such a statement when it came time for details and the bridesmaids to get dressed. Whitney also had a first for me with her friend, Teddy, standing in and helping out as an, “Usherette”! Love the coined new term! Then it was time for Whitney to step into her gown and this moment was special. She was beaming with joy as she stood in her lace dress with buttons all the way down the long train. Her ladies assisted her with all the final details before she had a first look with her dad followed by Tommy. Both her dad and her soon-to-be husband grinned from ear to ear when they saw this beautiful bride! Tommy got a little emotional while he and Whitney took some time to read private vows to one another. So sweet! Before we get these two hitched though, they decided to knock out some photos!
We found a gorgeous spot in the pasture with some much needed shade and a stunning old tree to provide a magnificent backdrop for bridal party photos. With the orange and tans of their attire, this good looking crew just popped right off the photos! OBSESSED! There was no shortage of laughter and joking with this bunch! Even with the hot temps, everyone was in a great mood and having a blast. Before I let this adorable couple go it was time for their close up! Tommy with his cowboy hat and jeans next to his stunning bride in her amazing white dress holding tight to his arm! What is not to love!?! The wind was a little wild on their wedding day, but Whitney had her heart set on some veil shots. So we popped in her veil for a bit and just when we did the sun came out from behind the clouds like it knew it was its moment to shine! I do love me a great veil shot! One other “must have” Whitney’s heart was set on was heading out to the cow pasture for a few photos with the cattle. We did this for their engagement session and had so much fun that we just had to give it another try on wedding day. Of course with Whitney in a big white dress and heading into a cow pasture, it was a touch different! But, Whitney is a true farm girl and was not scared to make her way through the pasture in her dress…heels and all! And the photos were so worth it!
Ceremony time was upon us and as we walked up towards the delightful spot where Whitney and Tommy were planning to say their “I Dos” a big dark cloud was rumbling with thunder in the distance coming over the hill! I heard a guest mention they had just driven through a ton of rain to get here and I was a little concerned we were about to get poured on. I secretly grabbed a couple of clear umbrellas to have close on hand just “in case” a few drops fell. Tommy made his way up the aisle escorting his mom and Whitney made her approach with her father in no better way a farmer could, but in a truck! Her dad helped her out and they began the walk up the aisle towards her new future. Tommy’s emotions definitely got the best of him, which he even confirmed with the officiant as Whitney approached with her father. As Whitney’s dad was about to give her away I’m pretty sure the loving words he said were, “She’s your problem now, Tommy,” before he snickered at his daughter and gave her the biggest hug! That’s the exact kind of relationship Whitney and her father have and it’s an amazing one! The couple had two special family friends and mentors speak during their nuptials to help give words of wisdom and guidance. As we inched closer to the end of the ceremony a few drops of rain began to fall. I grabbed one of my clear umbrellas and slowly made my way up the side aisle of the chairs in the line of sight of Whitney to see if she wanted it to avoid getting wet. I never want to be part of the memories of the day if you will, but I also don’t want a bride getting soaked if I can help it! Luckily for all of us, the rain stopped just as quickly as it began. Whitney & Tommy sealed everything with a kiss and were pronounced Mr. & Mrs. Wilson! One important aspect of the day that Whitney brought up to me from the very beginning of planning was including her great grandfather’s red tractor. This heirloom was meaningful to her, Tommy, and her father so much so that we even ended up taking family photos in front of it, which really gave a personal touch.
Following family photos, we headed over to a neighboring friend’s farm, where we had visited during their engagement session for a few photos in front of Whitney and Tommy’s favorite barn! The laughter was even more boisterous by now and the excitement for the newlyweds was palpable! The girls even busted out their jean jackets so the new wifey could show off her new last name! We finished with a few “Just Married” photos of these cuties before they boarded the bus to take them all to the reception at The Bates Building on the Macoupin County Fairgrounds. The family style tables were set with rustic fall decor of wooden centerpieces and lanterns along with greenery and pampas grass. The dessert table was filled to the brim with cupcakes, cookies, and truffles all mouthwatering and ready to snag. Complete with napkins of their two pups. Whitney and Tommy didn’t want to spend a ton of time on formalities and listened to a few toasts by their two maids of honor and best man. Then the couple danced their first dance before she took a spin around the dance floor with her dad and he danced with his mom. Then the party got underway and the newlyweds spent the rest of the evening celebrating with family and friends! Whitney and Tommy’s day was light-hearted, sweet, and full of down on the farm fun. I loved every second of their day and wish them all the best in their love and blessed marriage!
