Meeting up with Kayla and Nick for their engagement session in downtown Springfield, Illinois felt like a long time coming. I first met Kayla back in 2017 when I was photographing her sister, Kristin’s wedding to Steve and she was the maid of honor. She told me back then that when she got engaged she wanted me to be her photographer! So fast forward to 2024 when Nick finally popped the question and Kayla, she immediately reached out to me for available dates, even before they picked a venue! What an incredible honor and I’m so grateful to her and Nick!
Even though Kayla and Nick live down in Edwardsville, Illinois they drove up to Springfield for a change of scenery for the engagement photos. We began their session in front of the Governor’s mansion with the stately view of the architecture and the wrought iron fence. These two are adorable together with Nick being the more reserved type and Kayla as the outgoing and up for anything kinda girlie! It’s the perfect balance! We then headed over to the beautiful Incredibly Delicious Gardens as the spring blooms were starting to pop out. We took some time to wander around the lovely landscape with these two snuggling in close even though it was a warm spring evening. We made one more stop downtown to the charming First Christian Church and its gorgeous archways. Kayla changed into a classic black top and jeans, which made these lovebirds standout against the backdrop. By this time, Kayla and Nick were getting the hang of being in front of my camera so it was time for the big finale at Washington Park!
Luckily for us, we caught the last of the stunning tulips at the park before their spring bloom was over. And the universe aligned and Kayla’s dress was literal perfect match for the hue of those florals! We spent a good about of time back by the column because it was just so magical! Kayla and Nick dipped and twirled back there plus shared lots of laughs. Then before the sun dropped below the horizon we snuck back to the front of the park for a few golden shots of these cuties to finish up our time together. I adored spending an evening with Kayla and Nick and I cannot wait to get to do it again on their big day this November!
Warm Regards,
