It’s hard to know where to start with Jenny and Nathan. I basically fell in love with them from the moment we met! Jenny is an awesome photographer in her own right and was full of excitement for their big day! Nathan is just the sweetest and 100% invested in the vision that Jenny was dreaming up for their wedding. They both had ideas on how to create the perfect wedding day at the red barn that had been in Nathan’s family for years in Virginia, Illinois. And my goodness, did they pull it off! In the midst of a global pandemic and questions of if they could even make their early September wedding happen, they pushed on, found a new reception location (since their original one was shut down due to Covid restrictions), and threw the most beautiful farm wedding around!
The day did start out with rain in the forecast, which wasn’t the best news however Jenny and Nathan both remained upbeat and positive that it would pass before their late afternoon wedding. And Hallelujah it did! We had some overcast skies, yet by the time we were ready to start with photos it was perfect! Jenny and I had even talked prior to their wedding that we would be ok with overcast clouds since it would mean we could do more portraits in a couple of spots they loved! Oh, how photographer’s minds work! It was so fun to return to the barn for their first look, where we had done Jenny and Nathan’s engagement photos (minus the cow, which I’m not gonna lie I was a little sad about). This is also the same place where Nathan asked her to be his bride with a homemade “Will You Marry Me” sign! Now in this very spot is where they will become husband and wife! Chills, right?! When these two saw each other for the first time their faces lit up! The day just kept getting better and better as the vision started coming together with bridal party photos following the first look. Jenny was absolutely flawless in her beaded, form-fitting gown, and cathedral tulle veil! I mean STUNNING! The bridesmaids were all in various styles of peacock green dresses then you added in their multi-colored and textured bouquets it was an impeccable look! Nathan and the guys had a wonderful farm fresh look too with jeans, white shirts, tan jackets, and cowboy boots of course. The groomsmen added a pop of color with matching peacock ties while Nathan kept it neutral with a tan necktie. Seriously I was so in love with it all!
Then it was time to get these two married! Although it took Nathan 8 years to pop the question (a number that was brought up quite often in toasts at the reception) the moment was surreal when Jenny made her way down the aisle with her dad to Nathan. I may or may not have teared up a little! Thinking of how much this little piece of property means to both of them and their families and how much it has played a role in their relationship it was the ideal place for Jenny and Nathan to start their married life. The ceremony was short and sweet as the pair exchanged vow and rings, poured dirt from each of their respective hometown counties into a pot holding a small tree they plan to plant at the barn signifying their unity together and sealing it all with a kiss! Then the new Mr. & Mrs. Ring walked back up the aisle arm in arm!
After a few more photos with the 100-year-old windmill and the barn the whole crew headed to Jacksonville, Illinois to a friend’s private property for the reception. If you thought the details throughout the day were incredible wait until you see what Jenny and Nathan delivered while turning a machine shed into a glamorous farm venue! Their peacock and berry colors were found throughout as well as wheat and dried leaf accents! The dessert table was full of pies, grandma’s cookies, Texas sheet cakes, and of course wedding cake! Ummmm…YUM! The reception was filled with so much love for the couple and as they shared their first dance you could tell they were happy with how wonderfully everything came together! I was even able to steal them for a few minutes as the sun was setting and my word it was a gorgeous one! Jenny and Nathan deserve the best of what God could give them to end their special day and I wish them continued blessings in their marriage!
