I knew almost instantly when I met Rachel and Richard, or Ricky as I have called him from the beginning, they would be an incredible couple to work with! The way they looked at one another, the excitement they both shared when it came to their wedding plans, and their kind-hearted, genuine smiles. They have been basically inseparable for almost five years as Rachel is in the middle of Med School and Ricky works for a food service supplier. These two love all things Disney, especially Beauty and The Beast, which Ricky incorporated into his proposal and their engagement session you can see HERE last fall. They adore working out together as well as spending time with family and friends when they can in between Rachel’s busy studying schedule! And their big day, which included so many wonderful details closely thought out and executed perfectly, was held at the delightful Apple Basket Farms in Barry, Illinois, towards Quincy, last weekend. I arrived at the barn in the morning to photograph all of Rachel and Ricky’s lovely details including her dress, shoes, jewelry, as well as Ricky’s personalized leather suspenders, bowtie, and his all-important Superman socks. Rachel’s mom, Karen, who was a HUGE help, took care of me throughout the day plus kept all of Rachel and Ricky’s needs and logistics in order! The weather at that point wasn’t as cooperative with thunder and rain surrounding the barn and tent on the property. Yet, when I arrived to see Rachel for the first time with all of her ladies while they were getting all dolled up for the day and their spirits were high and enjoying their time together. And then…Sun came out! When it came time to getting Rachel in her gown you could barely contain her excitement or her bridesmaids, who are all close friends or family. I believe even though Karen and Rachel said they were not “lovey-dovey” people they both took in the moments as Karen zipped Rachel into her wedding dress. I know I did!
Before the ceremony, we made one stop with the girls at a local golf course for a few photos to show off these beauties! Rachel’s girls wore varying shades of wine and fuschia short lace dresses which were the perfect compliment to Rachel in her mermaid style dress with simple tulle bodice and full rosette detailed skirt! Add in their amazing colorful bouquets and these gorgeous girls were ready to impress for the day! Ricky and the guys, however, couldn’t be too outdone by the girls! So when I met them at the barn they were dressed to impress! Ricky was in a full navy suit with a red bowtie, which matched his groomsmen along with their leather suspenders. Talk about some dapper looking dudes! Ricky even gifted each of his groomsmen a pair of their favorite superhero socks to go along with his themed socks!
Ceremony time rolled around and miraculously the rain, which had been in the forecast for much of the day was nowhere to be found! This meant the outdoor nuptials the couple had dreamed about could happen to overlook the beautiful landscape surrounding the barn. As soon as Rachel began walking down the aisle with her mom holding their adorable pup, Ricardo, and a photo of Rachel’s father, Brent, who passed away six years ago, the emotions all began to flow! I don’t think there was a dry eye among anyone in attendance as Ricky and Rachel saw each other for the first time. It was definitely a special moment. The tears continued as Rachel and Ricky read their sweet vows they took time to write themselves in order to express what the other truly has meant on this journey they are on together. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, Ricky made a statement by dipping his bride for the kiss! LOVE IT! They exited through a tunnel of one of their favorite treats…Popcorn! The joy of the moment was all over their faces!
Now it was time to get the new Mr. & Mrs. Mathias together with their energetic and fun bridal party! The weather added to the enjoyment of their photos as the sun was shining and the cool breeze made everyone even more excited for this time of day! The jokes were flying, the cocktails were flowing, and I couldn’t have enjoyed my time with Rachel and Ricky’s closest friends anymore! Before the reception began, I took plenty of time to capture this pair as they shared a few quiet moments soaking in the sunshine as well as the satisfaction they are finally married! YAY! When it came to reception time Rachel and Ricky were welcomed with open arms by their guests as they shared their first dance by the barn before they wasted no time getting to the party! And although a few clouds slid in right around sunset, Rachel and Ricky were game to sneak away once again for a couple more photos before dancing the night away with their loved ones!
Every aspect of the newlyweds day touched the emotional side with happy tears and unending joy! Rachel and Ricky have left an imprint on my heart for sure and I’m thrilled I had the opportunity to witness their union and be a part of their day! Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Mathais!
Warm Regards,
Lauren
