I am a wedding and portrait photographer who keeps things light, fun, and full of energy. I’m based out of Springfield, Illinois however I love traveling all over the midwest and beyond.

I’ve had about a month break between weddings and with another beautiful couple on the calendar to tie the knot tomorrow I started thinking about what I’ve been missing with this lull between weddings. As a wedding photographer, there are parts of the day, which historically can be more stressful for me to make sure I get the perfect shot. However, each and every one of my couples has a different and unique story I’m there precisely to tell through imagery. No two wedding visions are the same yet, there are moments of the day that genuinely makes my heart soar! Today with my Friday Fives series, I’m sharing five of my favorite aspects of the wedding day!
Getting Ready Time
With my own wedding almost 10 years ago, getting ready photos were not a “thing” when I got married. Capturing a bride with her mom and the special ladies in her life always brings a little tear to my eyes! A moment the bride has been dreaming about since she was little, has finally come to fruition!
First Look
Again, another trend that was not around when I got married, but one that I absolutely adore is the first look! Being a fly on the wall when a groom sees his bride for the first time is simply magical! And I’m one of the few people that get to be a part of that moment! What an honor!
Sunset Photos
If we are lucky enough on the wedding day to be graced with some gorgeous golden light at an incredible location for sunset photos I’m THRILLED! Many times the location doesn’t seem ideal for sunset photos, but you would be amazing at what I can make work. Either way, sunset photos are most likely the one and only times throughout the day that I will have the couple (Now Mr. & Mrs.) alone without any distractions and focused solely on their new life together. When my couples make sparks fly in front of my camera you will probably see my happy dance! Or at least hear a squeal from me!
Connections
Whether it’s between a bride and groom, one of them with their parents or grandparents, or any other type of connective moment throughout the day, which I know is important to the couple, I’m thrilled to capture it! A bride with her girl squad, who have been through thick and thin together or even a father giving a heartfelt toast to the new Mr. & Mrs. These are the memories embedded deep in their souls.
Dinner Time
As you can imagine, a wedding day is a super long day on my feet with pretty limited food (and bathroom breaks!) When myself and my lovely second photographer, Kim have the opportunity to sit down for longer than the car ride to the next locations we get pretty darn excited about it. And although we tend to shovel in our meal to ensure we don’t end up missing any special moments during the reception we savory every second of dinner time! Especially if we get to indulge in mashed potatoes (really any type of potatoes) and of course…Cake! Or cupcakes! I really have no preference! I mean…Cause that’s what we are honestly there for, right?! The Cake!
Joking aside, every wedding holds a special place in my heart and the authentic and sweet moments happen once in a lifetime, which I personally look back on when I look back on photos from the day. I am grateful I get an upfront seat to each of them!
Warm Regards,
Lauren
