When Mother Nature is teasing us with the hope of spring then giving us a dose of snow and winter in the same week as 70 degree weather….Let’s talk about pretty flowers! Please! Wedding season is about to go full steam ahead and for many brides their bouquets and the flowers they choose for their big day are very important. Plus, finding the perfect florist for your style and vision makes your wedding planning so much smoother. Hopefully these few tips and things to think about when you’re starting to sit down with potential florists will ease your mind and help you feel prepared.
Remember Your Venue
You picked your fabulous venue for a reason. Something pulled you in and made you fall in love with the characteristics, which are unique to this one location. Is it modern? Whimsy? On maybe a rolling vineyard? Knowing the style and vibe you want your day to exude going into your meeting with florists will allow you to express the exact concept you are looking to show off. Don’t forget to pay attention to incredible areas the venue may have which sets them apart. If you want to draw attention to them, adding small centerpieces or accents of flowers to that area will invite your guests to enjoy this space, such as a back patio or balcony.
Do Your Homework
Peony, Dahlia, or Lily…Oh My! Have you seen a flower that you are totally obsessed with but have no clue what the actual name of it is? Take the time and research the names of the flowers you love to ensure you don’t waste precious time during your florist meeting playing a guessing game. Knowing flower names will give direction to the florist and a starting point of what you are drawn too. Even bringing photos of bouquets or arrangements you like will get the ball rolling with your florist. Even having a photo of your wedding gown and swatches of the bridesmaids dresses will present the full inspiration of your dream wedding so you establish a cohesive look! Then let their creative imagination take flight! You won’t be disappointed!
Flowers And Your Budget
Keep in mind the flowers for your big day can take up a good chunk of your budget. Those beautiful bouquets for the ladies, boutonnieres for the guys, centerpieces at the reception, or flowers for the ceremony will add up. The possibilities are endless! It’s good to remember that flowers average around 10% of your wedding budget. A budget isn’t as exhilarating to talk about as romantic blooming buds. Yet nonetheless, it’s important for the florist to know from the beginning so they understand what services and ideas are within your calculated amount.
Choosing the most compatible florist for you has many more factors than what I listed above including if you simply have a fantastic connection right off the bat. However, this will give you a great start when beginning this journey to talk flowers. Go confidently into your meetings and I’m sending tons of good wishes you create a relationship with your florist that BLOSSOMS along the way! (See what I did there?!)
Warm Regards,
Lauren
