I am a wedding and portrait photographer who keeps things light, fun, and full of energy. I’m based out of Springfield, Illinois however I love traveling all over the midwest and beyond.
inquire about your session!
What a way to start off the 2017 wedding season! Yes, there was rain. Yes, there were flood warnings. But, if you saw the glow beaming from Jasmine’s face, which basically lasted all day, you would have never known the weather was on her mind. From the moment that I first chatted with Jasmine over FaceTime about her Panther Creek wedding planned in Springfield, Illinois I knew we would get along wonderfully. She was amazingly sweet, very laid back, and thoughtful. We didn’t get to sit down in person right away because she is going to nursing school down near St. Louis and Scott is getting his degree from SIUE. We finally all met for their November engagement session at the Illinois State Capitol and Washington Park. The two of them were incredibly smitten with one another and it was apparent they had a very close, loving relationship. We shared so many laughs and took the time to get to know one another.
Flash forward to this past weekend when Jasmine and Scott’s wedding day arrived. Checking out the weather forecast all week I will admit…I was nervous. I thought ok, it’s Illinois and maybe the 90% chance of thunderstorms will lessen and we will have a miraculous change to simply overcast clouds with no rain. Mother Nature had different plans and it rained off and on most of the day. However, throughout the day literally no one made a comment to me about their concerns for the rain. Not Jasmine, not Scott, not their families, or bridal party. To me, this was an awesome testament of the positive, delightful, and pleasant group of people I had the honor to work with this weekend. I over heard one of the bridesmaids ask Jasmine what she was most looking forward to on her wedding day. She easily said, “Just being married.” She absolutely could not wait to be Scott’s wife.
The ceremony was full of so much love with the words that were spoken and the inspiring faith Jasmine and Scott shared between one another was fantastic to witness. After they were announced husband and wife, we completed all the family photos, and headed over to the Washington Park Botanical Gardens. I knew with the rain we needed to have a back up plan inside so the conservatory was a perfect choice with tropical flowers all around. Luckily for us, when we arrived the rain had stopped. While the bridal party waited inside, I grabbed Jasmine and Scott and took a few beautiful shots of them surrounded by white cherry blossom trees. Giving them a minute or two to be together with their new spouse was a gift I wanted to make sure they received during the busy day. We had an amusing time inside the conservatory fighting off prom kiddos and all their parents taking photos as well as shoving over 20 people in the flourishing, yet tight greenhouse. But yet again, this group made the best of the day with plenty of laughs and even some spontaneous rapping in between photos. I tried to make one more last ditch effort to get the whole wedding party outside for a few photos before the rain returned. Of course as soon as we got back outside the skies opened up on top of us! I snapped a few memorable group shots of the whole party huddled under umbrellas then we took off to the reception. Jasmine and Scott were happy with everything, as was I. The reception at Panther Creek Golf Course was filled to the brim with loved ones despite the storms dumping so much precipitation. When I finally left after singing and dancing along with the packed dance floor of guests, I could not help but think of how much I am going to enjoy watching Jasmine and Scott’s relationship continue to grow moving forward. Thank You to you both as well as your families and friends for accepting me into your special day like I was part of the family. Many Blessings!
Warm Regards,
Lauren
