Many brides have a vision for their wedding day and what their getting ready photos will look like. Finishing touches of lipstick, your mom and bridesmaids helping to zip you into the dress, an even clasping your jewelry around your neck or wrist. I have written a bit about getting ready photos already this year. My previous post found HERE was all about creating the best environment for beautiful images while you are preparing for the big day. Today, I wanted to talk about the detail shots so many of us swoon over. Your amazing earrings, maybe your signature perfume, of course the shoes, or even your wedding invitation. With so many options out there it is hard to decide what you should bring on wedding day. My suggestion…bring it all and let me decide what looks best. Obviously, the main items of your day I will use first like the pieces you are going to be wearing. Your dress, not doubt I will take detail shots of but, do you have an appealing hanger to drape your dress from? I never realized the importance of a nice looking hanger until I started photographing weddings all the time. I’m sure you have seen the super cool ones with your new last name and maybe even wedding date on it made out of wire. They look lovely with your dress and really capture the whole look. If you decide against one of those custom hangers that is fine, I would simply suggest bringing a more formal wooden one. Believe me, that will look way better than a cheap plastic hanger. I would even mention this to your bridesmaids as well. This way if I photograph detail shots of all their dresses with yours it has a cohesive look.
All of your jewels for the day I will definitely be photographing. Earrings, a necklace, bracelets, maybe even your something borrowed. If you are wearing a veil, I can potentially use this as a backdrop for your jewelry. Along with your shoes or garter. So make sure you have those pieces with you as well. Are you totally in love with your invitations and want me to showcase them so you can always look back at how beautifully made they were? Invitations are an investment and you will want to remember them. Bring a full set of your invite with you on wedding day. Or even a newspaper with your wedding date on in bold print can be an idea. I can “pretty up” the shot and even throw your rings in with them. Speaking of the rings, it may not always be possible but if you are able to have both your engagement and wedding rings along with your groom’s ring at the beginning of the day that would be helpful so I can get your ring shots out of the way early. I will probably borrow them again later in the day after the ceremony or at the reception for more detail photos with your flowers or other decor. However, having all the rings in the morning will allow me to have time to focus (pun intended) on all the rings together. And don’t forget your favorite perfume bottle. You want to remember the name of the scent you choose for your special day just as much as your new hubby will want to remember how sweet you smelled when he leaned in for your first kiss. Is there a deeper meaning behind a ring, a handkerchief, or a pin used in your flowers? Perhaps you are using something that belonged to a loved one that has passed away. Make sure to tell me. A. Because I love to hear these stories and B. So I can ensure I include it in my detail images.
Your wedding day is filled with so many little things, moments, and details that you incorporate for a reason. And unfortunately with how fast and crazy the day can go, those small details are what can be forgotten the quickest. Prepare yourself and those special pieces ahead of time so you can hand them off to me and I can preserve them for you in your photographs.
Warm Regards,
Lauren
